Livia is a college student who came to volunteer her summer vacation at the hospital. Even without medical training, she was a huge blessing. She helped organize patient files, went on mobile clinics as logistical support, and helped coordinate various small projects with staff. Livia has plans to attend medical school, so she was very interested in medical work. She assisted in the operating room and helped coordinate care of patients on the wards. A small child (seen in the picture) had a femur fracture and needed a Pavlik harness, but those are unavailable in Sierra Leone. So Livia designed a harness from pictures online, coordinated with a local tailor, and taught the family everything they need to know for the 3-4 months needed in the harness.
